Donald Zimmerman, Ph.D., LMHC, LCSW

Dr. Zimmerman has over 35 years experience in the education and mental health fields and specializes in the areas of loss, death and grief issues; trauma and crisis response issues; equine assisted therapy; childhood disorders; anger management; self injury; and school and educational concerns. In 2007, Don received the Mental Health Counselor of the Year Award, given by the Indiana Counseling Association. His current professional experience includes private practice therapy; private consulting in leadership development, crisis response, and organizational development. In 2008, Dr. Zimmerman was one of the original contracted therapists as Brooke's Place launched its Therapy Services program providing individual/family counseling to children, teens, young adults and their families anticipating or grieving the death of someone loved. Ten years later, he continues in this contracted therapist position at Brooke's Place. Don's previous professional back ground included work in the public schools as a Director of Student Services and Research, Coordinator of Psychological Services and Special Projects and Lead School Psychologist. His professional work also involved university teaching in the areas of counseling psychology, psychology, guidance counseling, and psychological testing. Dr. Zimmerman has been a board member at Brooke's Place. He has also served families at Brooke's Place as a support group facilitator for 6-9 year olds and also an Adult group. For several years, Dr. Zimmerman served as a clinical therapist at the Selah House.
