About
Do you want to create an even safer and more compassionate space for children and teens living with grief? This workshop teaches an understanding of how children or teens grieve differently than adults and in doses, whether quietly or loudly. Certain learning objectives will be more emphasized depending on the audience members and the population they serve.
Topics: Grief principles, The grieving child & teen, Common myths of childhood grief, Neurochemical response to trauma, Grief tasks, Understanding childhood & teen grief developmentally, Natural grief reactions, Grief support tools, Activities & resources
Learning Objectives:
Professionals will learn unique ways children and teens internalize and express grief (grief tasks), which is different from adults.
Professionals will gain knowledge in recognizing normal grief responses (reactions) in children and teens.
Professionals will gain knowledge and understanding of how our brain development is impacted in bereaved children and teens.
Professionals will gain knowledge of practical supportive tools and techniques, grief activities and grief resources to use when supporting a grieving child or teen.
5 CE hours/PGPs provided
Who Should Attend?
Mental health professionals (social workers, LMHC, LMFT), teachers, school counselors and administrators, clergy, funeral directors and personnel, nurses, hospice personnel and other professionals and individuals who are interested in learning more to empower children and teens to thrive in the midst of grief.
