“Almost seven years ago I learned the word grief. My grandma, my favorite person in the world, died unexpectedly, changing my family forever. 

Camp Healing Tree came first, and Brooke’s Place Ongoing Grief Support Group came second, almost a month after she passed. My brothers and myself were both enrolled in 2016 and it was the start of a healing process. We were all unsure at first, it being such a big change in our lives and then having to talk about it with people we did not know but Brooke’s Place made sure we knew we were not alone, and we never would be. My facilitators will forever hold a place in my heart, and I cannot thank them enough for being there for me during the hardest parts of life.

They never pressured us to talk. They never pressured us to partake in something we didn’t want to. They instead would sit with us in silence. They would be there if we wanted to talk, even if it wasn’t about grief. They were there for anything and everything, including more losses. My grandpa died while I was attending Brooke’s Place in 2018, and I immediately knew I had people who were there to support me. Being a kid going through grief is an experience I do not wish on anybody, but Brooke’s Place made that experience so much easier. To go through love is to go through grief, and to go through grief is to go through love.”
