Kamilah & Jose

Kamilah:

One way that I honor my mom’s grief is by going to Brooke’s Place. There, I get to tell the story of my mom and myself. We do fun things to remember our loved ones who passed away.

My mom and I loved having movie nights as a family. We would make delicious cookies or lemon cupcakes and decorate them while watching movies.

One dish that my mom and I enjoyed together was meatloaf. My mom was amazing at making it, and it’s one of the best things I have ever tasted!

The word that perfectly encapsulates Brooke’s Place is compassion. I selected this term because the individuals at Brooke’s are consistently present, even when one might believe they are not needed. They provide unwavering support and guide you towards self-improvement each and every day. Additionally, you have the privilege of encountering individuals whose narratives have the potential to transform your outlook on life.

Jose:

The way I honor Kamilah's mom is by supporting Kamy and being there for her in this process. Reinforcing the beautiful moments she shared with her mother so that they carry even more weight, helping her on her journey through grief.

One of the activities Kamy and her mom did together was cooking. and Kamilah's mom was an excellent cook, and when Kamy is feeling sensitive, she usually requests dishes her mom used to make. I try to replicate it, such as a good brownie."

Morisqueta is a dish that Kamy used to enjoy a lot with her mom. This dish is typical of her mom's hometown. Now, Kamy asks my wife to make it for her.

[Brooke’s Place is] light in the deepest darkness of my despair.
