What is one way you honor your grief?
One way we honor our loved ones is by celebrating the yearly anniversary of their death. We eat tacos for dinner, dad’s favorite. A family friend makes his favorite cake every year that we also enjoy. On Christmas Eve we read Christmas books to all our loved ones at the columbarium. I made a blanket for each of the boys from his Tshirts whey all sleep with.
What is one activity that you and your loved one would enjoy doing together?
One activity we enjoyed doing together was going to the Zoo together. We went to the Zoo together almost every weekend in the spring and summer. We would go to eat after or go to the park. The boys were all so little and my memories of us as a family were largely together at family gatherings and eating meals together. Sunday naps and Saturday movies are highlighted memories as well.
What is a food you and your loved one would share together?
Our favorite food we shared and continue to share in his honor is tacos and sweets. Jason’s stocking is hung every year filled with everyone's favorite sweets.
What is one word you would use to describe Brooke's Place?
One word we would use to describe Brooks Place is comfort.
What is your history or connection to Brooke’s Place?
Our family started Brooks Place the Summer of 2018. My oldest two participated in Group E night and later the youngest when he was of age until COVID. We continued to participate in activities sponsored by Brooks Place. All of them have been able to attend Camp Healing Tree. Two years ago I took the facilitator training through Brook Place and currently serve as a facilitator for BP8 at the elementary school I work at. Next week I start with my 3rd BP8 group.
